How’d you manage the tent/sleep situation? Do you plan on staying in one spot or moving? It’s my first time so yeah I still have to figure out stuff

Few years back, I did it. Camped at Adenauer Forst, which was loud (party time!), but fun. A couple of thoughts:

The public campsites fill up, so if you aren’t planning to arrive early and stay most of the week, I’d book a private spot. (Almost got stuck because I didn’t think it through.)

I had a hire car, so I drove around the area sightseeing after I set up camp. But, I stayed in the same location all week camping-wise. There’s a lot of down time, though.

It rained, a lot. Be sure that if you are bringing a tent or buying one nearby that you get something which can handle the weather. It’s the summertime, but you are in the mountains, so it also gets cold and windy. Basically, pack flexibly.

There are plenty of chances to get food, beer, etc. in the towns around the track. I was on a budget, so I only splurged on racetrack food once. YMMV.

Bring a radio. I know it sounds like a silly thing, but having a radio (and listening to Radio Le Mans) kept me on schedule for all the track-related goings on. Also, they RLM team clued me in to a few things which I was unaware of, like the pitwalks and whatnot.

It’s a ton of fun, and I hope to go back again soon. Be safe and enjoy!

Thanks for the tips!

I was planning on staying just for one night though, just to see the race. I gather it might be better to book a spot then.

So I have been the last 2 years, normally arriving Thursday and leaving Monday. This year planning to arrive Thurs leave Sunday evening for the rush back to the Ferry.

Booking a campsite isn’t really an option sadly, the Camping am Nurburgring (on the gp loop) is sort of first come first serve, and is normally pretty full on Thursday/Friday. But if its just you and a car, you might be ok. Im planning on not bothering with a tent this year, and just sleeping in the car. Much easier than bothering with a tent, and Thursday and Friday nights are huge parties so pretty loud till about 5am. So if you want to sleep, earplugs are not a bad shout. The loos/showers are brilliant fyi, but busy as you’d expect. they are always cleaned though, so not like grotty festival loos.

Getting around the track is pretty easy, they put on Shuttle Buses which whilst busy are pretty good. Personally, make sure your back at the GP loop (well, or near where ever you are staying) for the end of the race. First year me and a freind got stuck at Flugplatz, and had to walk back down the Dottinger Hohe - well the road along side. So dont make that mistake. The buses stop after the race ends... whoops. Most of the big spots do have carparks though, like Adenau Forst, Brunnchen but they are always busy, so the buses are a pretty good way to get about. Oh and the walk to the Karussel is long, but well worth it.

The Nordschleife is just an amazing experience, unlike anything else on earth. Go out there and try and see some of the race at night for maximum madness and party times. Last year was at Brunnchen at about 10.30 watching as some germans climbed the fence with road flares.

Yeah, so basically its frigging awesome and you’ll love it. Oh and the weather can be a complete lottery so pack with lots of options..

Just because, pictures from last years here: and nordschliefe sights

and if you have any more questions just shoot and ill try answer.

Thanks a lot man! I was browsing around the Nurburgring’s site and it appears there’s a fee for camping? Is it obligatory even if you sleep in the car?

Yeah, from memory its about 50 or 60 euro for the 4 nights i normally stay. so i would budget about 20/25 euro if your just staying the saturday night. If your parking in a carpark then i would imagine you only pay for that and could easily sleep in the car in those.

I might come even on friday though. The historic support race looks fantastic. Also really nice pics, dig the pans and night shots!

Historic race was great, well worth coming to see. Friday you should be able to get a spot in the campsite. just looked at the site and they have redone all their pricing so might be slightly dearer this year though.
